The successful person makes a habit of doing what the failing person doesn’t like to do. – Thomas Edison
In 1980, only about 15% of U.S. adults had obesity, but by the year 2000, that rate had doubled, and it’s now approaching 45%. As obesity rates skyrocketed, weight got all the attention. We now know that weight is only half of the equation, and that becoming healthier is all about building consistently healthy habits.
Finding the balance that’s right for you
LUMME lets you decide how much you want to focus on your weight. Some people will want to focus heavily on weight because they have a specific goal in mind. It’s true that weight has a big effect on certain forms of illness like high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
If you’re losing weight to address a health problem, it’s helpful to weigh yourself at least weekly, and perhaps even daily. Weight tends to fluctuate a lot from one day to the next, regardless of how much fat you’re storing. Weighing daily can help you cut through the noise to get a more accurate sense of whether the scale is going down overall.
On the other hand, many people now feel that focusing on weight is missing the point, and that it distracts from the important work of building healthy habits. We respect that attitude! There’s no requirement to weigh yourself if you don’t want to. You may also have other ways of keeping an eye on your weight, such as the fit of your clothing.

P.S. There is one more reason you might want to enter your weight into the app with some regularity, even if it’s not a big focus for you — it factors into your automated calorie estimates.
